Hit me baby, one more time!

Wow, am I ever glad denim is becoming a "trend" again. (Not that it's ever totally unpopular, because everyone wears jeans, but we'll put it this way - I'm glad I can wear my denim jacket again without getting (verbally) beaten up by some Prada-wearing chump.) I'm especially excited with all the new innovative ways to wear denim this season. Just please don't pull a K-Fed/Britney (you all remember that picture, right? Matching denim-on-denim! *shudders*).

Thankfully, some celebs know how to do it right.

All three of these ladies know how to make a statement with just one gorgeous piece. I also like how their looks are all undone, casual, rock-chic. That's what denim this season should be about!

Then there are the not-so-fortunate fashion-challeneged girls...

Let's clear this up: denim-on-denim is NEVER acceptable, ever. Got it, Jessica? It makes you look like an 80's love-child slob and is embarrassing for both yourself and your little girl. And, apparently, Hayden doesn't have a clue how to dress to suit her body type, because both her jeans and her shirt are incredibly unflattering and hit all the wrong places. Use your denim for good, not evil!

I have to admit I have a serious case of denim-lust right now. I yearn for a happier time, filled with terrible 90s catch-phrases, the last of the leg-warmers, and greasy, gelled hair. ..... Too bad I'll soon be a starving college kid, living in dismal 2010. :'( You guys will have to buy all these fabu pieces and wear them, just for me, mmmmkay?

ps. I definitely sang 90s pop last night at the bar. It was karaoke night and, sadly, I was stone-cold sober. ARENTCHUJELZ??!!!?!?!

(If I Had You - Adam Lambert)

Oh, the wonders of internet search engines and social networking never cease to amaze me... I have recently discovered a beautiful website filled with clothes, created by brilliant designers, that I could easily see myself dreaming up in my brain, and attempting to sew (and failing epically): Behold the wonder of all that is idontlikemondays.us! srsly, check this shit out.

054. | Hollywood hills and suburban thrills.

DILEMMA (not that I have a significant amount of $$ for this to be important right now, but WHATEVAH): should I treat myself to a pair of Jooks or a pair of Toms for spring? Decisions, decisions...

Jooks

Toms

-----------------

Do any readers out there have a pair of either? Which are more comfy? Which picks do you like best? (And, most importantly, which are spring-worthy? :) )

050. | There's fire in my veins and it's pouring out like a flood.

I have officially fallen in love with Federation Clothing Ltd. Good thing Canada has a strong dollar right now, because I want EVERYTHING on their website! Now, if only I had the $$ to spend... sigh...

a. I'm really digging neutrals this season, which is strange for me because I like to wear a lot of strong, poppy, bold colors.
b. WHITE oxfords and cropped boyfriend jeans have been on my lust list for AGES but I sadly haven't been able to purchase either one yet... there is a home in my closet for you two, y'hear?
c. Totally digging the butterfly necklace, like WOAH. Statement jewelry will rule this spring!
d. I'm loving the updates on cool classics, like substituting metal -> plastic way-farers, bomber -> cropped leather jackets, and printed -> studded gladiators. These classics have gotten a trendy update, but will always remain timeless in essence!
e. Working at a pool gives me an excuse to own multiple (and often impractical) bathing suits, so I think a crocheted one-piece is long due.
f. I need infinite $$ and an infinite closet. :(

What are your spring wants&needs&lusts?

Le sigh. On to happier things.
While reading Death of a Salesman in English today, our batshit teacher started going on about Victorian hair art (which stemmed from our original conversation about a diamond watch fob; go figure). Turns out this stuff is pretty ornate.

"Jewelry made with hair is dated back to at least the 1600's, when hair bracelets were given as love tokens by both men and women."

"Hair was valued for sentimental reasons at a time when there were no photographs."

"Today there are only a few Hair Artists who are making this type of jewelry. There are no schools where one can go for instructions, so this art is self taught. An enormous amount of time is spent learning the different techniques. Hair Art like any other art is a constantly evolving process."

Although the idea is really unique, I personally don't think I could wear someone else's hair on my wrist or ears or shirt... gives me the creeps. What about you?

ps. Friends' 18th this Saturday. Drunken pictures will surely follow. :D

2.06.2010

036. | Cause you had your turn and now you're gonna learn what it really feels like to miss me.

At this point in time, CLOTHES > BOYS. So, for VDay, I think I'm gonna curl up in some cute jeans and a tee and watch Zombieland with my other single ladies. Yeaahh...

Since I've had to take an obscene amount of time off work in order to study for (and, hopefully, not fail) my diploma exams, the result is my wallet = ;(

Therefore, I give you Kiki's List of Outrageous Items That She Won't Be Able to Afford Without Selling Her Soul (or begging to her father on hands and knees). :) Oh, if only...

024. | Saturday: when these open doors were open-ended.

Wrote the first half of my Social 30-1 diploma exam this morning. I love writing essays, but I'm tellin' ya - 3 hours of government and politics = SUCK. I'm fairly confident that I did well, though. :) .5 down, 2.5 more to go!

Aren't these shoes THE ABSOLUTE SEX? I found them whilst blog-creeping and have fallen head-over-heels (ha!). Too bad I don't have $1707.29 CAD to spare...

by Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte

Also, now that we're on the topic of gothic/punk/metal/80s-comeback/wtf?, here are some other similar items that I'd give up my soul to own:

by Lip Service, $76 US

by Alchemy of England, $42.50 US

by Iron Fist, £49.99

vintage, $34.00 US

by Jason Wu

by Vivienne Westwood, $780 CAD

by Yves Saint Laurent, $921 CAD

from oasis.com, $34 CAD

by Vintage 1, $168 CAD

by ModCloth, $46 CAD

---

I think I'll do a vintage Polyvore set one of these days... I guess I'm glad the 80s are (badly) making a comeback - maybe vintage will = cheaper (or at least more readily-available)? I'm game for everything except mullets and hair metal.

oh, and ps. Download music by Fifth Hour Hero. RIGHT NOW. :) <3 That is all.
